What exactly is diecasting?
Before you dismiss diecasting, you first need to be clear on what exactly it is.
Put simply, it’s a manufacturing process to create precise, sharply defined metal parts using molten metal and reusable moulds. These moulds are referred to as ‘dies’. There are several types of diecasting available, aluminium diecasting, gravity diecasting, pressure diecasting and structural diecasting and the best one for you will be dependent on your intended use.

When you’re next stopped by a red light, take a moment to consider how these make use of die casting. A good conductor and with strong thermal properties, aluminium housings are strong and durable – great for withstanding the extremes of the UK’s climate.
#4 – Telecommunications
Turn on the radio, switch on your computer or make that business call. Modern life relies heavily on telecoms which in turn is dependent on diecasting. Electrical housing, antenna mounts, radio frequency filters or front face plates, there’s no end to the equipment list produced.
#5 – Guns
Shotguns, rifles, pistols – most firearms involve die cast metal parts, from the all-important safety features to the fundamental trigger.
#6 – Outdoor lighting
Given that die casting is used to great effect with traffic lights, it perhaps comes as no surprise that it is frequently used within all kinds of outdoor lighting too, particularly LED light fittings which need to allow for heat release within the fitting.
